C. kiiensis Tokunaga

Larva: a medium sized plumosus-type larva.    Gula pale or slightly darkened on posterior third;  frontoclypeus pale (may be darkened in Australian material, but identification not confirmed).    Mentum (Fig. c) with c2 teeth of central trifid tooth well separated from c1 tooth (type IV), 4th laterals slightly reduced (type I).    Pectin epipharyngis (Fig. a) with about 16 - 21 variable but sharp teeth.    Ventromentum Fig. d) with about 29 - 34 striae.    Antenna (Fig. b) with a moderately long basal segment, which is about 4 - 4.5 times as long as wide; AR about 1.9 - 1.96.    Antennal proportions: 120 : 27 : 10 : 13 : 6.    Mandible (Fig. e) with third inner tooth only slightly darkened (Type II), and with about 12 - 14 striations at the base.

Cytology:    4 pairs of chromosomes with the pseudothummi arm combination AE, BF, CD, G.   Nucleolus virtually terminal in arm G, with very large BR adjacent, separated by only 4-5 bands; closely paired.    No nucleolus in long chromosomes.    Quite polymorphic in Indian populations, with inversions in arms A, B, C, D, E, and F.    Only an inversion in arm D seen in two Australian specimens examined.
kiiA1:    1 - 2c, 11 - 7, 4 - 6, 2d - 3, 12 - 19
kiiB1:    Puff near the end of the arm with the dark bands distal (in all sequences?)

kiiD1:
kiiE1:    1 - 13                                                                            as piger, etc.
kiiF1:    1 - 2a, 10 - 6, 15 - 11, 2b - 5, 16 - 23            i.e. from oppositus F1 by Inv15 - 5

kiiF3:
kiiF4:

Chromosome arms A, E and F were described by Saxena (1995) as C. calipterus.    Click here to see arm G.

Pupa:    Length about 6.7 - 6.8 mm.    Spur with about 2 or 3 spines.
