C. species (bathophilus type)

Larva: Medium size bathophilus-type larva.    Ventral tubules of moderate length.    Head capsule with pale or slightly darkened gula and frontoclypeus.    Mentum with 4th lateral slightly reduced, almost to the level of the 5th lateral (type I or II), c2 teeth hardly separated from c1 (type I).    Ventromentum with about 33 - 35 striae; distance between inner margins only about 0.25 of mentum width.    Basal segment of antenna about 4 times longer than wide; AR about 1.35; A4/A3 about 1.4; ratio of antennal segments 105 : 36 : 11 : 16 : 6 .    Pecten epipharyngis with about 15 irregular teeth.    Mandible with third inner tooth darkened and separated (type III), about 20 striations near base.

Cytology:    4 pairs of chromosomes with the pseudothummi arm combination AE, CD, BF, G.    Arm G with a subterminal nucleolus.    Cytology of available specimens relatively poor.

Very similar to the larva of C. ÔqueenslandicusÕ but differing in the absence of lateral tubules and a slightly lower AR and ratio of A4/A3.

Adult not known, but a pharate male pupa collected with the larvae suggests that the adult may be similar to C. ÔqueenslandicusÕ.

Found:             Queensland - North Stradbroke Island.
