Course Advice

If you are pre-2008 B. Science or Combined degree student planning for third year subjects:

At this stage you have most likely chosen the major(s) you are interested in pursuing. Have a look at the information available on the Faculty of Science web site to find out what subjects you will need to study next year to fulfil the prerequisites for your chosen major(s). In addition to this, look at other subjects you will need to complete your degree.

To complete a Major in Genetics four subjects are required at third year:

Because our third-year offerings changed in 2009 the subjects required are different for students starting their third year Genetics subjects in 2010 compared to students who have already completed some third year Genetics subjects prior to 2009.

For students starting their third year Genetics subjects in 2010 the following subjects are required:

  • 652-301 Evolutionary Genetics and Genomics (Semester 1)
  • 652-302 Genes: Organisation and Function (Semester 1)
  • 652-304 Genetic Analysis (Semester 2)
  • 652-305 Human and Medical Genetics (Semester 2)

Combined-degree or other students who have already completed some third year Genetics subjects prior to 2010 should seek advice from a course advisor in the Genetics Department.

If you are interested in undertaking a MSc or Honours in Genetics you will need to complete a Major in Genetics.
