Postgraduate Study
The Department of Genetics offers the three postgraduate study
programs listed below. All three programs have a strong research
component involving individual research groups in the department or
associates of the department.
Master of Science (MSc)
The new MSc in Genetics is a two year postgraduate degree composed of
both advanced coursework and research. The MSc is an excellent degree
for transition into research higher degrees such as MPhil and PhD or
the work force.
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
The new MPhil is a research-based masters degree that is
internationally recognised. The MPhil is designed to develop skills
in independent research and to use these to make new contributions to
the chosen area of research.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The PhD is a research-based doctors degree. It differs from an MPhil
primarily by its deeper and more comprehensive examination of its
subject.
The Department of Genetics also offers one postgraduate diploma
program listed below.
Postgraduate Diploma in Science
The Postgraduate Diploma in Science is a one year postgraduate course
composed of both advanced coursework and research. The structure of
the Postgraduate Diploma in Science is the same as that for B.Sc. (Honours)
